About:
Australian quintet Dappled Cities roots are in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia, though they now spend great parts of their years living in the UK and US. Forming in high school at the tender age of 15, it’s hard to believe this band are still in their mid-20’s with a full body of work behind them – including 3 full length albums, various remix EP’s, side projects and a 26 part children’s television program for Disney (Alphabreaks) that has been screened in more than 16 countries around the world.
Last year Dappled Cities released their third studio album ZOUNDS, which received critical acclaim, a #1 AIR Chart debut and even earned the band their first ever ARIA nomination. With the release of ZOUNDS in the US & UK later this year, they will embark on their 6th US tour (they are veterans of 4 SXSW Festivals!) in support before relocating to the UK to commence work on their 4th album.
More than a decade into their career, Dappled Cities are now starting to receive the accolades promised for so long. The UK’s most popular radio network BBC2 recently named their debut UK single ‘The Price’ as Record Of The Week ahead of Gorillaz and other high profile UK acts. Perhaps it’s a hint of the playful grandiosity ala the Flaming Lips and Granddaddy, or lashings of the chiller sonic explorations of Sigur Ros? But however it’s described Dappled Cities music moves people. Progressive pomp, art rock, avante-guard pop? The most important thing to know about Dappled Cities is that they have never compromised their music or art. They have taken the honest and more difficult route – touring the world relentlessly, building fans 1 by 1, and most importantly delivering to the world a very unique blend of original Australian music. Dappled Cities catalogue is destined to become one of the most important ever.
